The Explorers program challenges students to “explore” the world through extracurricular activities. Explorers who have accomplished their academic and behavior goals will be called upon to attempt difficult challenges, gain life-changing experiences, and develop expertise.

BAHAMAS & Island School

This Caribbean island adventure provides our students with hands-on learning activities in marine biology and ecology, environmentalism and sustainability, and outdoor and aquatic adventure.

The Island School is the site of Atmosphere Academy’s rewards trip to the Bahamas. Students with top academic and core value honors earn a 9 day international trip sponsored by the school to Cape Eleuthera, Bahamas.

With experienced chaperones and trained Island School staff, students study marine biology, practice nature conservation, experiment with renewable energy, and develop their leadership and interpersonal skills. The Island School trip is done with the Cape Eleuthera Institute.

FLORIDA

Atmosphere Explorers travel domestically to visit the Sunshine State and engage in deep dives about Florida’s marine life and the environment.

The 7th and 8th graders have a chance to learn from 2 of the country’s leading aquariums in Tampa-St. Petersburg, Florida. Marine life and the environment is an important part of the student’s middle school education and they will have hands-on experience in the Explorers trip- Florida.

COSTA RICA

A tropical locale that immerses our students in a Central American rainforest and Pacific Ocean atmosphere for learning about native wildlife and sustainable environmentalism.

8th grade students earned a service trip to Costa Rica. Students learned about the wildlife and how to help the coastline of Costa Rica. Students zip-lined through the rainforest and snorkeled in the Pacific.

Global Leadership Adventures lead 24 students and 6 chaperones for 10 days as part of the Atmosphere Explorers program.

Atmosphere Academy has an extensive list of Enrichment Programs. Bringing the world to Atmosphere is important because student performance improves as they are exposed to real-life tangible experiences. Providing students the opportunity to participate in an enriching experience can positively shape the trajectory of a student’s academic career.

EQUESTRIAN

Earned by STARS status, riding lessons from professional equestrians. ,

Atmosphere Academy’s Equestrian Program is a unique enrichment opportunity where students learn to groom, ride, and train horses with Riverdale Stables. They ride outside on the equestrian course as well as inside the stables.

Throughout the 10 week program, they train to ride, walk, gallop, trot, and guide the horse. Students develop a personal relationship with the horses, the trainers, as well as the rest of the Equestrian team.

SAILING

Students can earn the sailing enrichment that will have them in the Hudson River and build aquatic models in SUNY Maritime.

Atmosphere Academy Sailing Program is offered to STARS students in partnership with Hudson River Community Sailing. In the fall, students sail in the Hudson River and develop expertise and experience as sailors. Ultimately, they sail from the Inwood section of Manhattan to Midtown Manhattan as a culminating trip to test their skills.

In the Winter, students build their own submersive robot and learn how to navigate it in a pool at SUNY Maritime College.  In the Spring students are back on the Hudson River learning how to steer the tiller and rudder, raise and lower sails, pack and unpack the boat, and follow sailing safety rules.
