Leadership Team

  • Chief Executive Officer & Founder

    Colin Greene is Atmosphere’s Chief Executive Officer and Founder. He created Atmosphere Academy Public Charter Schools in 2014. Previously, he served as a Lead Technology Consultant in the Byram Hills School District as well as the Head of Academic Program at Link Community School in Newark. In the latter role, he oversaw curriculum design, instructional leadership, data systems, professional development, teacher evaluation, and all other academic operations of the school. Prior to joining Link, Mr. Greene was Director of Curriculum and Instruction with Sponsors for Educational Opportunity where he developed original programming and curriculum, hired qualified instructors, and managed successful implementation and quality control. He spent the early part of his career as an English Teacher in various public and private high schools in New York and New Jersey. Mr. Greene holds a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Fordham University, a Master of Arts in Teaching of English from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Arts from New York University. He is New York State certified as a school district leader, a school building leader, and an English teacher.

    Elizabeth Nash is Atmosphere’s Chief Learning Officer. Ms. Nash holds a Master of Science in Adolescent Special Education and Literacy from Iona College and a Bachelor of Arts in Adolescent Education and Social Studies. She is New York State certified as a special education teacher, a social studies teacher, a literacy teacher, and an adolescent education teacher. Previously, Ms. Nash taught at Iona College, Mamaroneck High School, Iona Preparatory School, and The School of Immaculate Conception.

  • Chief Culture Officer

    Christian Roman is Atmosphere’s Chief Culture Officer. Previously, he has served as the Head Dean at Health, Education, and Research Occupations (HERO) High School and Dean of Students at Banana Kelly High School in the South Bronx. In these roles, Mr. Roman worked to provide young people with the discipline, guidance, cultural enrichment, and social-emotional development they needed to realize their full potential. Mr. Roman has also served as a Drug and Alcohol Prevention Coordinator at Unitas Therapeutic Community, where he honed his counseling and management skills. Mr. Roman hired, trained, and maintained a staff of approximately 40 teen counselors and employees. He also facilitated seminars on 6-step conflict resolution that enforced the principle of peaceful problem solving. Mr. Roman holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from St. John’s University. Growing up in the South Bronx, Mr. Roman developed an undeniable passion for and pride in the people of his neighborhood. Mr. Roman has translated this passion into daily service and dedicated his studies and career to elevating, inspiring, counseling, and advocating for the community in which he still lives and works. Mr. Roman also serves his community through spiritual guidance by dedicating his free time to working as a religious instructor and assistant director of a youth group at St. Athanasius Parish. Each day, Mr. Roman works closer and closer to his goal of uniting and uplifting the people of the South Bronx.

  • Chief Academic Officer

    Katherine Brennan is Atmosphere's Chief Academic Officer. She has over 17 years of experience as a principal, central office administrator, K-12 supervisor, content specialist, mentor and classroom teacher. In addition to certifications as a supervisor, principal, and chief school administrator, Mrs. Brennan holds a BA, MA, and is pursuing a PhD in education policy and administration.

    Benjamin Pah is Atmosphere Academy's Program Director. Previously, he has worked as a Vice Principal at Coney Island Prep and English teacher at Bronx High School for Law and Community Service. As a Vice Principal, he coached teachers, guided students, and partnered with families. As a teacher, he taught literacy, raised test scores, and facilitated career training. Benjamin holds a MS in Educational Leadership from Fordham University and a BA in English Education from NYU. He is NYS Certified as a School Building leader and English teacher. Overall, Ben's vision is to guide students to work as hard as possible to achieve the careers of their dreams to uplift their families and communities.

    Ericka Shammgod is Atmosphere’s Social Science Instructional Leader. Mrs. Shammgod holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from CUNY, a Master of Science in Teaching Literacy from Touro College, and a Master of Science in School Leadership from Touro College. She is New York State certified as an elementary education teacher and as a school building leader. Previously, Ms. Shammgod taught at Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academy and in the NYCDOE.

    Andrew Raia is Atmosphere's English Instructional Leader. He has a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Arts in Curriclum and Instruction from Boston College and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Montclair State University. Mr. Raia has over fourteen years of experience in the field of education. Previously, he was Community Service Coordinator and Ninth Grade Team Leader at Great Futures Charter School in Jersey City, New Jersey. He has also served as a Language Arts Coordinator and a Principal

  • Achievement Leader

    Lena Litvak is Atmosphere's Achievement Leader. Previously, Ms. Litvak has served as Atmosphere's Math Achievement Leader Teacher, Achievement Coordinator, and Achievement Teacher. Earlier in her career, she worked as an Assistant Teacher at a school for students with learning disabilities as well as a 7th Grade Math Assistant Teacher at a charter school in Harlem. Additionally, she competed on the women's tennis professional tour for more than four years. Through her work as an Achievement Leader, Ms. Litvak helps scholars develop data-driven goals and tools to be able to better display their content knowledge on standardized tests. She also develops achievement curriculum and systems with the CEO and others to help ameliorate student deficits schoolwide and build lifelong skills that will allow all Atmosphere scholars to succeed. Ms. Litvak holds a BA in Sociology from Harvard University and received her certification as Teacher of Middle School Mathematics from Harvard University in 2015.

    Cynthia Correa is Atmosphere's Math Instructional Leader. Ms. Correa holds a Master of Arts in Education from Lehman College, Master of Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Campinas State University in Brazil. Previously, Ms. Correa was Atmosphere's Math Manager and 6th grade Math Teacher. Earlier in her career, she was a Co-Teacher at Cross Hill Academy in Yonkers, New York and was a member of the Yonkers Public School's Teachers of Tomorrow program. Prior to teaching, she was a Private Banker with JP Morgan Chase in New York and a Strategy and Credit Risk Manager with Banco Itau in Brazil. She is New York State certified as a math teacher.

    Angel Piña is Atmosphere's Grade Leader for the 7th Grade. Mr. Piña earned his B.A. in Sociology from the City College of New York (CUNY). Mr. Piña is currently completing his final semester for his Master's in Education from RELAY Graduate School of Education. Mr. Piña has worked in the Department of Education as a Parent Coordinator and Business Manager. Mr. Piña, has also been a Director of Operations and Assistant Principal at Great Oaks Charter School located in the Lower East Side. Mr. Piña's favorite job was as a Middle School ELA Teacher which led to building strong relationships with all of of his students.

    Ricky Delva is Atmosphere's Health, Physical Education, and Athletics (HPEA) Manager. Previously Mr. Delva served as Atmosphere's 8th grade PE and Health Teacher as well as a PE Teacher at East Ramapo School District In Spring Valley, NY working with students with disabilities in a special needs program in grades K-3 as well as general education students in K-6. Mr. Delva holds a Bachelor in K-12 Physical Education and a Minor in Health Education From William Paterson University. He is a NJ K-12 certified Physical Education & Health Teacher.

    Rosanna Pimentel is Atmosphere’s Teaching Assistant Manager. She manages and oversees Teaching Assistants across all grade levels. Ms. Pimentel previously served as Atmosphere's 6th grade Teaching Assistant where she supported various content area classes per day via a co-teaching model. Ms. Pimentel holds Bachelor of Arts in Child Psychology from CUNY and a Master of Science in Special Education. Previously, Ms. Pimentel has served as a Head Teacher, Assistant Teacher, and Substitute Teacher at various schools in the Bronx.

    Darryl Jenkins is Atmosphere Academy School Counselor Previously he worked with The Family Welcome Center at the NYC Department of Education. As an Enrollment Counselor, he assisted Families in Enrollment processes for grades K-12. He also served as an Academic Advisor for the Young Adult Borough Center at Herbert Lehman High School counseling over-aged and under credited students. He received is Bachelor's in Science in Psychology and Masters in School Counseling from Mercy College. He has a strong commitment to working with a diverse population of students.

    Ms. Lenne Reyes graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice with her BA in Criminology and a minor in English. Ms.Reyes is the Head Coach of the girl’s volleyball, basketball and softball team. She is also an Apprentice Dean, and her goal is to make sure our scholars are focused on their academics by supporting them socially, emotionally and academically.

    Reginald Jay is Atmosphere Academy's Culture Associate. Previously, Mr. Jay served as the 8th Grade Dean of Discipline/Culture at Equality Charter School in the Bronx. Mr. Jay is a dedicated and motivated educator to help all children especially those from the Bronx community to recognize their full potential while supporting them in achieving their academic and behavorial goals.

    Tanika McCullough is Atmosphere’s 7th Grade Dean. Mrs. McCullough currently holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Urban Education, alongside a CASAC License in which she has used prior to becoming a Dean, as a mental health/ substance abuse counselor. Mrs. McCullough is currently pursuing her Masters in Social Work at Stony Brook University. She is most passionate about the implementation of restorative justice practice, student advocacy,and high academic achievement.

    Ayesha Hoda is Atmosphere Academy's 7th grade science teacher. She has her Bachelors of Arts in Cultural Anthropology from Wesleyan University and her Master of Science in Education from Lehman College through the NYC Teach for America program. Before joining Atmopshere's team, Ms. Hoda taught at ms 128 (Mott Hall III Middle School) in the Bronx, which she left to found Justice by the Pen, a youth civic engagement program that has run various social justice youth workshops at schools, community centers and non-profits over the past eight years. Ms. Hoda transitioned to adult education as GED teacher/program coordinator for formerly incarcerated youth at the Fortune Society and subsequently High School Equivalency teacher at the Lehman College Adult Learning Center. Ms. Hoda is a mother of two and worked as a Fellow Effectiveness Manager evaluating teachers for the New Teacher Project while raising her little ones. She became interested in nature and environmental education while leading Tinkergarten classes (play-based outdoor education) in the neighborhood and is excited to bring science to life in the community in which she lives.

    Barbara Schmidt is Atmosphere’s Math Lab Honors Teacher. Ms. Schmidt holds a Master of Science in Math Education from The City College of New York as well as a Master of Business Administration in Organizational Behavior from Iona College. Previously, Ms. Schmidt served as a Math Teacher at Maria Regina High School in Hartsdale, New York. After a 20+ year career in financial services with JP Morgan Chase, Ms. Schmidt made the transition to math education. She enjoys incorporating real-life experiences into her classes and hopefully creating a positive impact on children’s futures.

    Casey Woods is Atmosphere's 7th Grade English Language Arts teacher. Mr. Woods has two college degrees which include a Bachelor of Education (Pace University, 2013) and a Master's of Science in Education (Lehman College, 2017). His passions include watching and playing sports, modeling, fashion, reading, writing, and shopping. While teaching, Mr. Woods was the Girls Modified Softball Coach/Boys Modified Basketball Coach and also leader of My Brother's Keeper. A high achiever his entire life, he has always believed to be energetic and make others laugh and smile because that is the true essence of happiness.

  • Chris DiGiacomo-Singh is Atmosphere's 6th Grade English Language Arts teacher. Mr. Singh earned his BA from Queens College where he majored in English and minored in Political Science. While studying as an undergraduate, he was a staff writer for the school newspaper. Currently, he is in the process of finishing up his master's thesis at Queens College. He has taught in both public and private schools and now looks forward to working with the young scholars at Atmosphere Academy. His passions include photography, travel, food, grammar, and science fiction.

    Desirea Ribot is Atmosphere Academy’s Teaching Assistant. Ms. Ribot has worked in the education system for 12 years in various roles. She looks forward to fostering growth and development in our students.

    Elcilia Taveras teaches 7th grade math at Atmosphere Academy. Elcilia’s teaching career began in 2008, when she started teaching 4th grade for 3 years. She then transitioned to middle school, fell in love with the age group and has not changed ever since. She is a New York State certified teacher. Elcilia earned her Bachelor of Arts in Childhood Math Education from SUNY New Paltz. She also earned a Master of Science in Secondary Math Education from CUNY Lehman College. When Elcilia is not teaching she enjoys spending time with her 3 nieces who live in Upstate New York.

    Teaches 7th grade English at Atmosphere Academy. He has spent the entirety of his career teaching middle school. He started his career in the Levittown School District where he taught for 10 years and for five of those years was the acting English department chairperson. He has spent over five years working at charter schools, his most recent in Queens. He attended Hofstra University where he received his bachelor's degree in English and his Master's degree in secondary education.

    Harry Mandel is a 6th grade math teacher at Atmosphere Academy. Mr. Mandel earned his B.S. in Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with minors in Economics and Psychology. He also has an M.B.A. from Pace University in Marketing with a concentration in market research survey analysis. He had a long career that combined Information Technology and Market Research for a company that helped animal welfare and education charities build their outreach and donation base before changing careers into teaching math. Mr. Mandel has worked at many public schools in Fairfield County, CT; most recently Nathan Hale Middle School in Norwalk, and now looks forward to helping Atmosphere Academy's scholars learn and grow. His hobbies include puzzles, travel, hiking, bowling, geography, meteorology, geocaching and watching the Yankees win!

    Henry Gonzalez has spent his career in education teaching 6th to 12th grade Global Studies, American History, Economics and Government. He is a graduate of Brooklyn College with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and History. He received a Masters in Instructional Technology from the New York Institute of Technology. Mr. Gonzalez has more than 10 years experience in the charter world and has sent his two children to charter schools in Queens. Previously Mr. Gonzalez coached Social Studies teachers at New Visions School for the Humanities at the JFK campus and taught at Bronx Lighthouse Charter School.

    Ivette Ramos is Atmosphere's Achievement Assistant. Previously, Ms. Ramos worked as a Youth Counselor for Westhab's afterschool program in AAPCS. Ms. Ramos was also a coach assistant, school aide, substitute teacher, teaching assistant, and project assistant at AAPCS.

    Jayeanne Pacor is Atmosphere's 6th grade Achievement teacher. Mrs. Pacor earned both her BA and MA degrees in Education from Saint John's University. Mrs. Pacor has been a New York State Cetified Teacher for 20 years in both private and Independent schools. Mrs. Pacor has taught several grade levels during her career, but truly enjoys teaching 6th grade. She is looking forward to working with the Atmosphere school community.

  • Katherine Kachnowski is Atmosphere's 7th Grade English Language Arts teacher. Ms. Kachnowski earned her Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Ohio State, where she majored in Language Arts Education and English. A New York state certified teacher, she is currently pursing a Master of Arts in English Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Previously, Ms. Kachnowski worked at Bronx River High School through the non-profit Blue Engine.

    Katie Weinstein is Atmosphere's Special Education Teacher. She supports students with IEPs in various classroom settings. Ms. Weinstein holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Behavioral Science from Marist College. She is New York State certified as a teacher and a special education teacher. Previously, she student taught in Marlboro, New York and Hyde Park, New York.

    Kevin Salazar is Atmosphere's 6th Grade and 7th Grade Physical Education and Health Teacher. Mr. Salazar holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Manhattan college. He is also attending Manhattanville College to earn a Master’s Degree in Business Sports Management.

    Kimberly Oliveira is Athmosphere’s newest 7th grade Special Education teacher. She has her Bachelors of Science in Childhood and Special Education. While working towards her Bachelors, she formerly worked as a teachers assistant in an ABA setting. She is working towards her Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. She is so excited to be joining Atmosphere's team and is looking forward to working with her students. She believes every student learns differently and enjoys differentiating material to fit her students needs.

    Lawrence Wong is a 6th grade math teacher at Atmosphere. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Mr. Wong earned a B.A. in Psychology from UC Berkeley and an M.A. in Education Policy from Teachers College. Following several years in the finance field, Mr. Wong fell in love with teaching middle school, likely due to his complementary sense of humor. He believes in two things: (1) that a love for the learning is the key to education, and (2) that you can never have too many socks.

    Ms. Maribel Marie Cardona is a 6th Grade English Teacher at Atmosphere Academy. She has earned double honors in English Literature and Creative Writing at Adelphi University. She also received honors after receiving her Masters in Adolescent Education, also at Adelphi University. She has her diploma in Managing Diversity in the Workplace from New York University where she was able to spread cultural awareness at her school and within her community. She is currently finishing her Masters degree in both School Building Leadership and School District Leadership in order to help all members of her community. She actively works with the National Society of Leadership and Success to spread awareness of diversity and equity to all. Her hobbies are travelling, drawing, writing, painting and going to the theatre.

    Mark Akintobi is Atmosphere's 8th Grade Math Teacher. Previously, Mr. Akintobi worked as 10th, 11th and 12th math teacher at the The Paulo Friere Charter School in Newark, NJ. Before becoming a high school math teacher Mr. Akintobi was working as accountant at a law firm Fein, Kahn, and Shepard and also Stern and Lavingthal. Mr. Akintobi holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from William Paterson University.

    Megan Whelan is one of Atmosphere Academy's 6th Grade English Teacher. She also teaches the 6th grade honors curriculum. Mrs. Whelan is a certified New York state teacher. She has a Master of Science in Teaching from Fordham University and a Master of Communication and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fairfield University.

    Meghan Dunne is Atmosphere’s Learning Specialist. She supports students with IEPs in math and English classes. Ms. Dunne holds a Master of Science in Childhood Education from Molloy College and a Bachelor of Science in Childhood Education from Molloy College. She is New York State certified as a special education teacher. Previously, she taught in the West Islip School District and the North Merrick School District.

    Melissa Vero is Atmosphere's English teacher. She has previous experience as an after school teaching assistant and has interned in Middle and High Schools. Ms. Vero has obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education with an English Concentration from Pace University Honors College.

    Michael is a certified Social Studies teacher grades 5-9. He earned a B.A. in History from the University of Hartford with a focus in American history. He has had a passion for American history since the 8th grade. He then earned a Masters in Elementary and Literacy from Pace University. He is very excited about beginning the next part of his teaching career at Atmosphere and is looking forward to the new year. When he has down time, he enjoys reading, writing, relaxing, and spending time with his wife and twin daughters.

    Mrs. Lebron teaches 7th-grade Mathematics at Atmosphere Academy. She has spent the entirety of her career in the middle school setting both as a teacher and an administrator. She spent the first ten years of her teaching career in the NYC Department of Education and then transitioned to the charter space where she has worked for the past 8 years. She achieved her bachelor's degree from St. Lawrence University and her Master's degree in Education from Long Island University.

    Phillippa Elizabeth Alexander is Atmosphere's 6th Grade Social Science Teacher. Mrs. Alexander is a passionate and dedicated life-long educator. Mrs. Alexander became an educator in the New York public school system in 2003 during her induction into the New York City Teaching Fellows Program Cohort#6.Mrs. Alexander passions are (S.T.E.A.L.M.) learning new languages and discovering multicultural connections and bridges which inter-connect us, one to another. Mrs. Alexander enjoys learning and speaking Japanese, French, Spanish, and Wolf (French-West African Dialect.)Mrs. Alexander's greatest accomplishments are her two amazing daughters, Danielle Seldon and Imani Seldon, whom she loves and adores. Mrs. Alexander earned her Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Mercy College.Mrs. Alexander also earned a Bachelors of Science Degree, in Psychology, from Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

    Ramona C Jones teaches 8th grade Math and Science at Atmosphere Academy. She received her BA from CUNY-City College . She earned a Dual Master of Science degree in Early Education and Special Education from The College of New Rochelle. She also has a Master of Divinity from Alliance Theological Seminary. Mrs. Jones is certified in General and Special Education from Birth to Sixth grade. Mrs. Jones has been an advocate for children and their families within various communities for more than three decades. Previously, Mrs Jones owned and operated a family daycare for eight years and taught as a Special Education Teacher in a Self-Contained classroom in the NYC Public School System. Mrs. Jones also taught in a NY State mental hospital with middle and high school students. Mrs. Jones is highly respected in her community and volunteers as a mentor to numerous men, women and children.

    Raquel Sommerville is Atmosphere's English Teacher. She teaches 5 sections of Critical Reading and Critical Writing. Ms. Sommerville holds both a Master of Arts in Teaching (Secondary English Education) and a Bachelor of Arts in English from SUNY New Paltz. She is New York State certified as an English teacher. Previously,  Ms. Sommerville was an English Teacher and a Department Chair at VOICE Charter School.

    Ravyn Gilbert is Atmosphere Academy's 8th Grade American Studies teacher. Ms. Gilbert holds a Bachelor's Degree in Adolescent Education with a concentration in Social Studies and has a Master of Science in Teaching Students with Disabilities. Previously, she worked as Pre-Kindergartner teacher as Brightside Academy in the Bronx. Ms. Gilbert is excited and motivated in providing an interactive social studies experience with her students and seeks to grow and learn along with them.

    Sarah Hendry is Atmosphere's newest English Language Learner Specialist. She has her bachelors of Science in Childhood and Special Education and concentration in Mathematics from the College of Saint Rose. She has a master's degree from Syracuse University in Teaching English Language Learners. Previously, Ms. Hendry has served as an ESL teacher in the South Bronx and Special Education teacher in Brooklyn.

    Scott Friebel is Atmosphere’s 6th Grade Physical Education and Health Teacher. Mr. Friebel holds a Master of Science in Physical Education from Hofstra University and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Management from CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Health Education at SUNY The College at Brockport. Mr. Friebel is a New York State AHPERD member where he presents physical education activities at local and state level conferences. Previously he worked part time as an Athletic Administrator for a Long Island based youth sports company and also coached youth volleyball, lacrosse, and hockey while working towards his degrees.

    A New York Native originally from Brooklyn, I am excited to bring my passion for education to Atmosphere Academy Charter School as a 7th grade Mathematics teacher. I bring over 17 years of experience working with diverse student populations in a variety of roles. In my time working in education, I have worked with students from Pre-K to Middle School grades, including in positions as elementary school teacher, special education teacher, ABA teacher, and SETSS teacher. I hold a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Brooklyn College as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. I consider seeing the academic growth of the students I teach my greatest accomplishment. In my off time, I can be found in and around Brooklyn, where I grew up and have lived my whole life. I enjoy spending time exercising, shopping, eating out, or cooking at home. I am creative and organized and bring these skills to the classroom.     Suzanne Larsen is Atmosphere's 6th Grade ELA Teacher. She has a Bachelor of Science in the Education from Penn State and an Master of Art from New York University. She has been teaching for 32 years.

    Tabitha Colon is Atmosphere's English teacher. Ms. Colon graduated from Pace University where she obtained both her Bachelor of Arts degree in Adolescent Education with a concentration in English, and a Masters degree in Literacy. Ms. Colon has had two years of student teaching and subsituting experience in Ossining, NY where she also taught both 7th and 8th grade for 2 years.

  • Physical Science Teacher

    Travis Miecnikowski is Atmosphere's Physical Science Teacher. He teaches 5 sections of Physical Science. Mr. Miecnikowski holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Penn State University and a Masters of Education in Instructional Design from Western Governors University. He is New York State certified as a teacher. Previously, he was a Teacher at Harlem Prep Charter School and Brooklyn Scholars Charter School as well as a Nature Educator at Nature's Classroom in Connecticut.

  • Life Science Teacher

    Valini Persaud is Atmosphere's Life Science Teacher. She teaches 5 sections of Life Science. Ms. Persaud holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, and a Master of Arts in Teaching Biology from CUNY Queens College. She is New York State certified as a science teacher. Previously, she was a Science Teacher and Department Chair at Urban Dove Charter School.

  • Social Studies Teacher

    Mr. Hanley is a New York State certified teacher in Social Studies. He has been an educator for 24 years, spending 19 of those years in the classroom, 2 years as a dean, and 3 years as an assistant principal. Mr. Hanley earned a B.A. from Herbert H. Lehman College (CUNY) and an M.A. from State University of New York at Albany.

  • ELL Specialist

    Yesenia Rivera is Atmosphere Academy's ELL Specialist. She holds her Master of Science in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Mercy College. Ms. Rivera has previously worked in the DOE system.
