Criminal Justice

The Yonkers Police Department offers our students a distinctive opportunity to intern across various divisions within the force offering a unique, behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement in a diverse and dynamic urban community. Interns have the opportunity to observe daily police operations, assist with administrative tasks, and engage with various specialized units such as community affairs, investigations, traffic, K9 Unit, and crime prevention.

This experience provides a deeper understanding of public safety, legal procedures, and the importance of building trust between officers and the community. Through ride-alongs, station tours, and direct mentorship from experienced officers, interns gain valuable insight into the responsibilities and challenges of modern policing—preparing them for future careers in criminal justice, law, or public service.

Through this immersive experience, students gain firsthand insight into federal law enforcement operations, build critical thinking and analytical skills, and develop a strong understanding of ethics, confidentiality, and teamwork in a high-stakes environment. This internship also serves as a gateway to future careers in federal service or criminal justice.

Law

An internship with the New York City Criminal Courts offers a firsthand look into the judicial system at work in one of the busiest and most complex legal environments in the country. Interns have the opportunity to observe courtroom proceedings, assist with case research, support clerical and administrative functions, and gain insight into the roles of judges, attorneys, clerks, and court officers. This experience provides a valuable foundation in criminal law, courtroom protocol, and legal documentation, while also emphasizing the importance of justice, due process, and public service. Through mentorship and real-world exposure, interns develop professional skills and a deeper understanding of the criminal justice system—ideal for those considering careers in law, government, or public policy.
