Atmosphere Updates + Two New Employees

Hello Atmosphere Parents! As always, there is a lot going on at Atmosphere so I wanted to make sure you were aware of.

Our students went on a few exciting trips last week. On Tuesday, students on the Mock Trial Team went to the Bronx Supreme Court. On that same day, students in the Westchester Land Trust enrichment program took a trip to Sugar Hill Farm in Bedford Hills, New York. Last Wednesday, all students went to Central Park. A smaller group of students also went on a reward trip to see Tuck Everlasting the Musical later that afternoon.

We have launched a new website! It still needs a lot of work so please be patient, but it now has a school calendar page that you can view in real time. We will be adding all events to this calendar.

Tickets to the NYCFC soccer game on 4/30 at Yankee Stadium have now arrived. Please stop by the main office to pick up yours. Please remember that the first 2 tickets are free. Each additional ticket (after the first two) is $25. Any balance can be paid when you come in to pick them up.

State testing was a tremendous success. While we won't know the results until August, we achieved a lot together. We had 100% participation on the test thanks to all of you. This says a lot about your commitment to your children and to Atmosphere. Leading up to the state tests, we had almost 100 students attend each of our additional Saturday sessions to prepare for the test. Next year, I would like to see every student attend these sessions. We are just getting started with what we can do together, and I see additional gains moving forward as we continue to refine our model and add more support, intervention, enrichment, and acceleration for each student.

On 5/4, we would like to invite you to spend the morning at our school with your child as part of our Family Learning Event. We will send out more information about this event soon, but you will be able to partake in classroom activities with your child in each of his or her classes.

On 5/5, we will have an awards breakfast for quarter 2 and quarter 3 in the morning from 8:30 to 10:00 or so. Parent-Teacher-Student conferences will take place that day as well from 1:00 to 6:00. A sign up sheet will be sent out soon.

Atmosphere also has hired two new employees!

Please join me in welcoming Jasline Rodriguez as our new Operations Associate. Ms. Rodriguez adds to our Operations Team and will be working with Ms. Ramos and Ms. Sanchez in the main office. You can email Jasline at jrodriguez@atmosphereacademyacademy.org.

Jasline is a Bronx native, who attended DeWitt Clinton High School growing up. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Economics from CUNY and was most recently the Operations/Finance Associate at Academic Leadership Charter School in the South Bronx.

Please join me in welcoming Kamilah McCaskill as Atmosphere's Behavior Specialist. Ms. McCaskill adds to our School Life Team and will be working closely with Mr. Roman and Ms. Prag to support students across the school as we continue to grow. You can email Kamilah at kmccaskill@atmosphereacademyacademy.org.

Previously, Kamilah was a Dean of Students at Hyde Leadership Charter School, an After School Dean at Equality Charter School, a Guidance Counselor at Monsignor Scanlan High School, and an Elementary Teacher in the Baltimore Public School System. She is NYS certified as a guidance counselor and holds a Master's Degree in School Counseling.

Welcome Atmosphere Academy’s New Website

Welcome to Atmosphere Academy's  new and improved website!

We hope you find all the information you are looking for and seamlessly navigate through the site. We upgraded our website with an entirely new layout and reorganizing information and photos. We also incorporated our school calendar to the website to ensure that our schedule, school day, activities and events are transparent.

At Atmosphere Academy, we pride ourselves in not only preparing students for college, but preparing them to succeed in life. As a charter school, our education creates an engaged learning setting by fostering a school environment that is supportive, aspirational and rigorous. By actively contributing to the school’s shared learning community, Atmosphere students will acquire the skills and character to become a leader in society.

We want to share with you all of our activities and education practices. Stay in touch and learn about all that is happening at our school by subscribing to our blog.
